Product Introduction

Lithium tetrafluoroborate (LiBF₄) is an alternative Li-ion electrolyte salt that offers two key advantages over LiPF₆: better performance at low temperatures and significantly reduced moisture sensitivity. BF₄⁻ does not hydrolyze as readily as PF₆⁻, making LiBF₄ electrolytes more tolerant of trace moisture during handling. At sub-zero temperatures, LiBF₄-based electrolytes maintain higher ionic conductivity than equivalent LiPF₆ blends, making this salt attractive for low-temperature battery applications. Trade-offs include a slightly lower overall conductivity at room temperature compared to LiPF₆. Xnergy supplies battery-grade LiBF₄ with purity ≥99% for research and development use.

Key Features

Low-temperature advantage — maintains higher ionic conductivity at −20°C to −40°C compared to LiPF₆-based electrolytes
Reduced moisture sensitivity — BF₄⁻ is less prone to hydrolysis than PF₆⁻, offering greater handling tolerance
Al current collector compatible — suitable for use with standard aluminum cathode foil
Purity ≥99% / H₂O ≤10 ppm / Acid ≤10 ppm — battery-grade quality for reliable electrochemical studies
Flexible volumes — available from 500 g for laboratory research to bulk for formulation development
