Lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI) has emerged as one of the most important next-generation electrolyte salts for lithium-ion and lithium metal batteries. Its FSI⁻ anion combines the high ionic conductivity of a charge-delocalized imide with reduced Al corrosivity compared to TFSI⁻ — LiFSI passivates rather than corrodes Al at high voltage when used at sufficient concentration or with appropriate co-solvents. LiFSI delivers superior ionic conductivity to LiPF₆ in many solvent systems and is the salt of choice for high-concentration electrolytes (HCE) and localized high-concentration electrolytes (LHCE) that have demonstrated outstanding performance in Li-metal batteries.
