Product Introduction
Propylene carbonate (PC) shares EC’s high dielectric constant but behaves fundamentally differently on graphite anodes. PC co-intercalates with Li⁺ into graphite layers, causing exfoliation and severe capacity loss — which limits its use in graphite-based Li-ion cells. However, this same property is absent in sodium-ion batteries, where Na⁺ does not exfoliate graphite, making PC a preferred co-solvent for Na-ion electrolytes. PC is also the solvent of choice for lithium primary cells, electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), and quasi-solid electrolyte systems where its wide liquid range (−49°C to 242°C) is a major advantage.
