Triphenyl phosphate (TPP) is a solid-phase flame-retardant additive distinguished from alkyl phosphates by its three aromatic phenyl groups, which confer stronger radical-quenching activity per unit mass and greater thermal stability. TPP is a solid at room temperature (mp ~49°C), making it easily weighed as a mass fraction additive. Beyond its flame-retardant role, TPP has been shown to form a protective film on high-voltage cathode surfaces, reducing transition metal dissolution and interfacial impedance growth in layered oxide cathodes such as NCM811 and LiCoO₂.
