Product Introduction

Vinylene carbonate (VC) is one of the earliest and most extensively studied SEI-forming additives in lithium-ion battery research. VC undergoes reductive polymerization on the graphite anode surface at approximately 1.4 V vs. Li/Li⁺, depositing a thin, elastic poly(VC) film that passivates the electrode and suppresses continued electrolyte decomposition. Widely used at 0.5–2 wt% in commercial electrolyte formulations, VC has a decades-long track record of extending cycle life and reducing gassing in graphite-based cells.
