Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is the workhorse low-viscosity solvent in most commercial lithium-ion electrolyte formulations. When blended with high-dielectric-constant EC, DMC dramatically lowers solution viscosity and improves Li⁺ mobility, making EC/DMC the starting point for the majority of electrolyte research and commercial cell chemistries.
