Ultra High Energy Ball Mill XN-MAX1600 Series
Ultra High Energy Ball Mill XN-MAX1600 Series is a high-speed planetary ball mill designed for rapid nano-grinding and mechanical alloying — capable of grinding samples to sub-micron fineness in minutes rather than hours. Independent plate and jar rotation speeds (up to 800 rpm and 1600 rpm respectively) allow precise control of impact and shear force for different materials.
Two models (XN-MAX1600-1L and XN-MAX1600-2L), 1:2 plate-to-jar rotation ratio, EMIT remote control via PC/phone/tablet, 15-program memory, dry/wet/vacuum/inert-atmosphere modes.

Name: Ultra High Energy Ball Mill XN-MAX1600 Series
Equipment Type: Ultra High-Energy Planetary Ball Mill for Rapid Nano-Grinding and Mechanical Alloying
Product Code: XN-MAX1600
Brand: Xnergy
Product Introduction:
XN-MAX1600 Series Ultra High Energy Ball Mill is a high-speed planetary ball mill that grinds samples to sub-micron fineness in minutes — a new generation of planetary mill capable of plate rotation up to 800 rpm and jar rotation up to 1600 rpm. Plate and jar speeds are independently adjustable, giving the operator direct control over the balance of impact and shear force applied to the material. The high-energy regime enables not only rapid grinding but also mechanical alloying — a solid-state powder processing technique that uses repeated cold welding and fracturing of metal-powder mixtures under high-speed stirring ball-milling conditions, producing particles with unique structures that significantly improve material properties. Mechanical alloying with XN-MAX1600 supports synthesis of balanced and unbalanced alloys starting from mixed elements or pre-alloyed powders, alloy-powder coating, and preparation of high-temperature alloys including those used in aerospace components.
Key Features:
High energy regime — plate rotation 0–800 rpm, jar rotation 0–1600 rpm, steplessly adjustable
Independent plate and jar speed control — precise tuning of impact and shear force per material
Plate-to-jar rotation ratio adjustable up to 1:2 for auto-rotation
Four grinding modes — dry, wet, vacuum, and inert (protective) atmosphere
EMIT remote control system — intelligent control via PC, mobile phone, tablet, and other terminals
Intelligent digital one-button operation
15 grinding programs stored on the unit, with 3 selectable modes
Power-off protection memory with self-start function
Self-locking safety door — opens only when the machine is stopped
Cover opening with safety switch and operation self-locking
Two models — XN-MAX1600-1L and XN-MAX1600-2L
Series Specifications:
| Model | Grinding Jar Volume | Vacuum Jar Volume | Plate Speed | Jar Speed | Power | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XN-MAX1600-1L | 50 – 250 mL | 50 – 100 mL | 0 – 800 rpm | 0 – 1600 rpm | 2.2 kW | 210 kg |
| XN-MAX1600-2L | 50 – 500 mL | 50 – 250 mL | 0 – 800 rpm | 0 – 1600 rpm | 6 kW | 300 kg |
Both models share the same control platform, four grinding modes, and remote-control capability. Power supply is configurable to local electrical standards.
Operating Modes:
Dry grinding — for dry powder size reduction, mixing, and alloying
Wet grinding — for slurry milling and dispersion
Vacuum grinding — using vacuum jars for oxygen-sensitive materials or de-gassing during grinding
Protective-atmosphere grinding — under inert gas inside the jars for moisture- and oxygen-sensitive chemistries
Representative Grinding Results:
| Material | Feed Size | Speed | Time | Final D90 | Jar / Media |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Barium ferrite | 6 – 100 μm | 1600 rpm | 30 min | 3.8 μm | Zirconium oxide |
| Titanium powder | 100 μm | 1600 rpm | 45 min | 0.3 μm | Zirconium oxide |
| Kaolinite (wet) | 100 μm | 1600 rpm | 20 min | 0.26 μm | Zirconium oxide |
| Basalt | 30 μm | 1600 rpm | 20 min | 0.16 μm | Zirconium oxide |
Results obtained with zirconium oxide jars and zirconium oxide grinding balls. Actual grinding performance depends on material properties, fill ratio, and media selection.
Application Areas:
XN-MAX1600 Series is suitable for:
Mechanical alloying — synthesis of balanced and unbalanced alloys from mixed elemental or pre-alloyed powders
Preparation of high-temperature alloys including those used in aerospace components
Alloy-powder coating and surface modification
Rapid nano-grinding of battery active materials (cathode, anode, electrolyte) and ceramic powders down to sub-micron fineness
Sulfide and oxide solid-electrolyte preparation requiring high-energy mechanochemical activation
Research workflows where standard planetary mills are too slow or insufficient for the energy regime required
Maintenance:
Clean the equipment regularly with a soft cloth lightly moistened with alcohol
Lubricate moving parts periodically to ensure smooth operation
If the equipment is not used for an extended period, clean the moving surfaces and apply a protective anti-rust coating
Periodically inspect screws, nuts, pins, and other fasteners to prevent loosening
Inspect jar seals (especially vacuum jars) before each atmosphere-controlled run
For high-speed operation, check that all jars and counterweights are properly secured before starting a run
Safety Notes:
Do not open the safety door while the machine is running — the door is interlocked but should not be forced
Operation should be performed by a single trained operator
Disassembly should only be performed by qualified technicians
For high-energy operation, verify jar integrity and counterweight balance before each run
For vacuum and inert-atmosphere modes, verify jar seal integrity before starting
Specifications are provided for reference and may be adjusted to suit specific process requirements. Grinding jars, grinding media, and atmosphere control accessories are specified at order time according to the target material and process.
Note: Specifications listed above are typical and for reference only. Actual grinding performance depends on input material properties, grinding-media selection, jar-fill ratio, and process parameters. XN-MAX1600 Series occupies a distinct position in Xnergy’s planetary ball mill range — it is the only model line designed for mechanical alloying and the only one with the energy density required to reduce metals, ceramics, and minerals to sub-micron fineness in 20–45 minutes (see the representative results table above). Independent plate and jar speed control, combined with the 1:2 rotation ratio capability, distinguish it from the fixed-ratio drive used in the standard XN-YXQM Series. Users running conventional dry/wet/vacuum grinding without mechanical-alloying or sub-micron rapid-grinding requirements will find the YXQM range, the floor-standing XN-ZQM Planetary Ball Mill, or the benchtop semi-circular XN-BQM Series more cost-effective. Milled or alloyed powders typically proceed to slurry preparation in the XN-PVM-500mL or XN-PVM-2L, depending on batch size. For contamination-sensitive samples downstream, the bladeless XN-PVMC-150mL centrifugal mixer is the alternative. For active materials commonly milled with this equipment, see our Cathode Materials and Anode Materials ranges (including metallic lithium, sodium metal, and lithium alloy series).
