Diethyl carbonate (DEC) is the higher-boiling member of the linear carbonate family, with a boiling point of 126°C compared to DMC’s 90°C. This reduced volatility makes DEC particularly useful in electrolyte formulations where minimizing solvent evaporation is important, such as elevated-temperature cycling studies or open-atmosphere cell assembly. When blended with EC, DEC yields an electrolyte with good ionic conductivity and a broader liquid operating range at elevated temperatures.
