Fluorobenzene (FB) is a low-viscosity, electrochemically inert aromatic diluent that has become a key component in localized high-concentration electrolyte (LHCE) formulations. Unlike conventional solvents, FB neither solvates lithium salts nor participates in electrode reactions at typical battery potentials — making it a chemically “invisible” diluent. When added to high-concentration electrolytes (HCE, typically 3–5 M), FB reduces viscosity and cost without disrupting the tight Li⁺–anion solvation clusters responsible for HCE’s unique SEI chemistry. The result is an LHCE that combines HCE-level performance with practical processability, and has demonstrated excellent results in Li-metal and high-voltage cathode systems.
